The Queenship of Our Lady was proclaimed as a liturgical feast by Pope Pus XII on 11 Oct. 1954. She has always been a Mother and Queen to the People redeemed by Her Son. Whenever the Church was in danger Mary like a brave and loving Queen came to the protection of her people. The Church had no hesitation on declaring that the wars She won against the moors, who wanted to make “Vatican a stable for their horses,” was through her power which the Christians obtained through the recitation of the Rosary.

Devotion to Our Blessed Mother is as old as the Church. The apostles afraid of the Jews, who killed Jesus, were hiding away in an upper room, praying and waiting for the Holy Spirit. Mother Mary was their inspiration and support. And truly Mary has proved to be a loving mother to every Child that called upon her.  What a joy to know that there is a mother in heaven praying for us and waiting for us. Hundreds of titles have been given to Our Blessed Lady throughout the long history of the Church. But none is sweeter than the title of Mother, because she truly was the Mother of Jesus, and she was given to each one of us as Mother when Jesus entrusted her to the Apostle John saying, “Son behold your Mother”.

Jesus was so happy to have a Mother like her. Someone has expressed the sentiments of Jesus with regard to his Mother in these words

MY MOTHER
“My most beautiful creation”, says God Is my Mother.
I was in need of a mother, and I created her.
I made my mother before she gave me birth.
Now I am truly human like all other men,
Because I too have a mother,
A real mother of flesh and blood.
My mother’s name is Mary, says God.
Her soul is absolutely pure and full of grace,
My mother is beautiful, so beautiful that
On earth I was never tired of gazing on her,
Listening to her and admiring her.
Leaving the splendour of heaven,
In her I found what I had left behind
Although I know, says God, what it is
To be borne in hands of the angels,
Believe me, that is nothing compared
To be carried in the arms of a mother.

Some years back, priests, when they had to travel early in the morning would take their Breviary (Prayer of the Church) with them and say their prayers while travelling. Once a priest, while travelling by train, took out his prayer book to say his morning prayer. As he opened the book a picture of Our Lady fell from the book on to the floor of the train. A Muslim gentleman sitting opposite to him picked up the picture, looked at it for some time and then asked the priest, “Whose photo is this?”

The priest piously said, “It is my Mother’s photo”

The Muslim gentleman looked at the picture and the priest several times then exclaimed, “But you do not look like your Mother at all”.

Of course, the priest explained to the gentleman why he called Mary his Mother.

But the Muslim gentleman’s words have a lot of meaning. We piously call Mary, “My Mother” Because we love her and have devotion to her.  Devotion means imitation. When we say we have devotion to Our Lady we say we are trying to imitate her in our life. Imitation ultimately make one imitating like one imitated. So, if we call ourselves children of Mary there must be visible in our life virtues that made God choose her to be his Mother. Virtues like, humility, patience, purity, obedience above all charity, love for God and our neighbours. It is not enough to call Mary “our Mother,” but we must become  her worthy children by imitating her, then truly she will accept us as her children and we shall be assured of her lover and protection here on this earth and above  the joy of being with her one day in heaven.

There was a very active participation by the confreres, with valuable suggestions given. Fr. Benny along with Fr. Provincial and Fr. Vice provincial expressed their appreciation for all YouTube channel content creators that began during the pandemic and the outreach work done by them. Fr. Jonas said that the Dimapur Links, the province newsletter, would henceforth be distributed online rather than publishing in printed form. He expressed some of the difficulties he faced in bringing out Dimapur Links.
Nevertheless, he was fully involved and contributing to this department as he had taken a lot of video coverage of the news and views of the province through YouTube channel.

Among  the  many  topics  that  were  discussed;  the  following  are:

A great need to cover the actual situations and works of the various houses undergoing the Coronavirus pandemic and the flood situation in Assam, etc
Updating of Province website and digitization of the old house chronicle album photos. Getting a detailed history of the houses that have been established for a long time.Getting a full-fledged and dedicated social communications team of trained Salesians and experts, lay people and a proper infra structure.
Rev. Fr. Provincial asked Fr. Jonas if he could take online social communication course for clerics scattered around the province and the country.
To make available the published books and other achievement of confreres.
Collecting a list of publications and to get a copy or two for archive in provincial house.
Writing biographies of certain eminent personalities…Bishop Kerketta, Bishop Abraham, Bishop P. K. George, etc.
The social communications team at present is depending hugely upon the province that is trying to manage during the COVID financial crisis. In this regard, Rev. Fr. Tarcissius suggested as a remedy to revive social communications department  registration of the society to avail funds and get projects sanctioned. The meeting ended with a prayer led by Fr. Nazarius and adigital photo session by Fr. Benny James. Fr. Nazarius thanked everyone at the end of the meeting and thus the meeting was concluded. (Reported by Fr. Jossy Mathews SDB)

DB Green Alliance Kick Starts in Dimapur Province

Dimapur 3 August 2020: In pursuance of the directive from Fr. Jose Kuruvachira SDB, the Provincial of Dimapur Province, the Commission for Don Bosco Green Alliance under the leadership of Fr. Provincial himself, had the first on-line meeting on Monday 3rd August 2020. Fr. Provincial gave us a brief status and purpose of presentation and the commission itself. We would be taking forward the key topic “How to protect and preserve our planet” and taking the cue from the Church with the Pope, the Congregation with the Rector Major and the Salesian Provincial Conference South Asia (SPCSA). The group opted for joining with DB Green Alliance at world level. Coming under the Youth Ministry, the effort would be a seven-year journey.

It would need serious networking with all the stakeholders. It is to be looked at as a movement rather than a series of mere activities. Starting  with awareness to taking small steps, it would embrace the entire gamut of the present day living – mankind, earth-that-is-in-danger, climate, our role in climate change, nature, the type of living habits we cultivate and encourage, waste management, energy in all its forms, renewable and otherwise, conservation etc. “I want you to panic” (words of a 16 year old school-going girl, Greta Thunberg)  “Our house is a fire. How dare you to steal our future with empty promises.  No one is too small to make a difference. I want you to act now. …”

We would start the 7-year effort by drawing up achievable yearly programmes on a priority basis. All the members, (individually) took upon themselves to make a list of around 50 activities that could be undertaken, after careful scrutiny, checking the do-ability. The online meeting adjourned to meet again with the list of possible activites that could be carried out. (Reported by Fr. PX Andrew SDB)

Another one more in Heaven

“How sweet it is to die of one has lived on the Cross!” “As death approaches, man reaps what he has sown.” These are the thoughts that shrouded the thoughts of many as the mortal remains of Lt. Rev. Fr. Ponnattil Mathew SDB, loving and commonly known as Fr. P.K was laid to rest at the Salesian cemetery in Salesian College, Dimapur on 1 February 2020.

On 30th January 2020 at 8:30 morning Fr. P.K left for his heavenly abode after prolonged days of sickness and pain. It was in the V.G hospital, Dibrugarh where Fr. P.K breathed his last.

A moving service, the funeral Mass, was celebrated at the chapel of Salesian College Dimapur on 1st February 2020 at 2:30 PM. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Bishop James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima and concelebrated by Fr. Provincial, Fr. Vice-Provincial and around 90 Priests.

Many, especially the people for whom he worked for, came to bid adieu to Fr. P.K. Mathew. The service was well attended. The congregation which gathered for the service was moved to tears. Nonetheless, the faith and hope that Fr. P.K was in heaven filled all with mixed emotions.

In his homily, Fr. Jose Kuruvachira, the Provincial, spoke at length about the tremendous service done by Father for the Church. Apart from that, eulogies for Fr. P.K were given by Bishop James, representatives from the Angami and Lotha Communities, family members, Marengo Hostel Dibrugarh, Don Bosco community Dibrugarh and Fr. Thomas Vattoth, representing the confreres of the province.  All spoke very highly of father and yet they also admitted that their words were never sufficient to express the wonderful services rendered by Fr. P.K. Vote of thanks was then proposed by Fr. Nazarius Lakra, the Vice-Provincial.

After the service the coffin was taken in procession to cemetery and was then finally laid to rest. Yes, Fr. P.K never trusted the clouds but the sunshine; not the shadow but the sun. He trusted in his dream and hope and never his hurt. He always had faith in his faith and doubted his doubts. “Well done good and faithful servant, enter to the place where you belonged,” must be the words lovingly spoken to Fr. P.K Mathew by our Lord Jesus as he reached paradise.

As the day came to a close, the sorrow of having lost a great soul was a memory of the past. It was never a loss as we thought, but it was a gain. A new member was added in heaven.
